Siri Berg – A Life in Color

09 May 10 Jun 2018

Since the 1960s, Siri Berg (born in Stockholm in 1921) has worked with a geometric abstraction, one both strictly reduced and rich in variation and the visually unexpected. Berg has been a resident of New York City since 1939 and it was also here she was first recognized at the time when minimalism was making its breakthrough in the art world. In the exhibition A Life In Color, we provide an opportunity to see a concentrated presentation of her abstract painting.

Another Side of the Shift

31 May 20 Aug 2017

At the end of the 1980s, a shift took place on the Swedish art scene. The art and artists to have dominated the stage for quite some time were forced to take a step back with the arrival of postmodernism, which ushered in a wave of new ideas. Now 30 years after the fact we are able to consider the time right after this shift, viewing it from a new perspective. This summer’s exhibition at Bonniers Konsthall features many of the names which shaped the art scene, from the arrival of constructivism in 1947 to the postmodern shift in 1987. Experience the tremendous array of art along with the vast desire for experimentation from that time, and meet the collector who was one of the Swedish art establishment’s leading figures.

Jasmin Daryani and Hilde Retzlaff are the 2016 Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation grant recipients. On the surface, Jasmin Daryani and Hilde Retzlaff’s work can appear quite different, yet they both take a similar approach in their selection of materials and locations. For example, utilising the street as a place to make new discoveries, or the experience of being marginalised either as an individual or material. Bonniers Konsthall will exhibit a selection of both artists’ work, and we look forwards to following them over the course of their careers.

The spring season kicks off with the first ever largescale solo exhibition by Andreas Eriksson, Bonniers Konsthall’s 2014 featured guest artist. Since adolescence, Andreas Eriksson has been occupied with painting, both as a technique and theme. He paints, but also uses expressions such as photography, sculpture and weaving to explore the painterly as such. Many connect his work to a Northern European Romantic painting tradition – his motifs are often derived from the nature surrounding Kinnekulle where he has his studio. The exhibition at Bonniers Konsthall presents works from the last ten years, but also new works related to the gallery's architecture and surrounding urban environment.
