Sonopticon: Sound Intervention

Fri 14 dec 201812:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A sound intervention by participants of the Sound in Interaction Professional Course at Konstfack

This collectively-devised sound intervention arises from the striking architectural form of Bonniers Konsthall’s library space. An extraordinary interior zone, within the heart of the city – where the audience is at once surrounded by a complex urban sound environment, but also at one step removed and insulated from it, by a glass curtain wall.

The intervention thus takes the form of a sonic overlay – playing with this simultaneous inside/outside orientation, and the possible disjunctions between what the audience sees and hears. The work is realised through a series of custom-built sounding objects, suspended in the space to create a sonic ecosystem. Sound materials are drawn from the soundscape of the surrounding area, with each object simultaneously referencing a point on the visual horizon. These elements combine to create a site-specific, immersive and multi-channel sonic experience.
