Collected Works! Art’s Conditions

Wed 15 jun 20166:00 pm

An evening of talks on contemporary Swedish art

Over the past 30 years, the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation has awarded grants to young Swedish artists. The foundation’s work has continued uninterrupted, but the world in which these artists create has transformed. Working conditions have altered, influences have shifted and digital advancements have created a radically new framework for art and artists.

Theodor Ringborg and a number of the participating artists will discuss how the conditions for art and artists have changed since 1986. What did it mean to be an artist in the 1990s compared with being one today? What did a grant enable an artist to achieve in 1986, 2001 and what possibilities does it offer in 2016? How do changes in the economic, political and technical spheres affect the work of artists and what is expressed through art? What are any thoughts these artists have on potential challenges facing tomorrow’s artist?
