Bonniers Konsthall – A space for Swedish and international contemporary art
Are you curious about contemporary art but sometimes finds it confusing and incomprehensible? We spend an hour examining contemporary art and in the process we try to define “contemporary”.
Lecturer: Gunilla Nordström
From cave paintings to communal cooking - a fast forward through western art history
In this lecture we follow the development of art from the cave paintings in Lascaux, France (20 000-15 000 BC) to Rirkrit Tiravanija’s cooking art (2002). The focus is on the conceptual changes of art and how this is reflected in the depiction of the works. Lecturer: Alessandra Di Pisa
Art versus advertising
Art and advertising – opposites or analogous visual expressions? High culture versus low culture, high art versus superficial commercial images – these are common views. But is it really that simple? In this lecture we will see how art and advertising have more in common than one might first imagine.

Creativity UNLIMITED
Innovative thinking and creative solutions benefit everyone, regardless of age and profession. A common myth is that creativity is a magic phenomenon, difficult to attain for mere mortals. However, creativity is something that everyone can develop and cultivate, given the right stimuli. This workshop comprises several exercises based on different methods with the aim of stimulating our imagination and our power of association. Marvellous creations are whipped up in a spontaneous and playful way.
The workshop is conducted by Alessandra Di Pisa.
What is art? – Art can be everything but everything is not art!
The starting point of this lecture is modernism’s questioning of the traditional concept of art and how it gave rise to what we today call contemporary art – conceptual art’s victory over formalism. Among the examples of contemporary art works, we focus on those that directly influence or try to influence the contemporary social climate. We learn why these works look like they do and what kind of thoughts and reactions they aim to generate in the general viewer as well as in critics, and how they challenge the concept of art.
Lecturer: Alessandra Di Pisa
Why did art become so ugly?
Fine art is an 18th century concept with roots in Antiquity. Beauty is still widely considered to be the main purpose of art. In this lecture we look at why it is so difficult to relinquish the idea of art as something pleasant, perfect and beautiful. We allow ourselves to see beyond the beautiful and invite ugly, grotesque and provocative art, to see what it has to offer besides arousing feelings of disgust.
