An important part of Bonniers Konsthall’s profile is to support and reflect the new Swedish art scene.
“In order to accentuate our involvement in the young, local scene we have invited curators from a younger generation who will develop a group exhibition with graduating art students. We hope to be able to present an exhibition of this kind annually, providing our visitors with a unique insight into what is happening at the Swedish art academies, where the youngest Swedish contemporary art is created,” Sara Arrhenius, Director of Bonniers Konsthall, explains.
The curators of this year’s exhibition are Marianna Garin, Camilla Larsson and Sinziana Ravini. Marianna Garin is a freelance curator and writer based in Lund. She is involved in the exhibition series Public Manifestations of Creative Dissent. In 2005 she was assistant curator of the Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Camilla Larsson is assistant curator at Bonniers Konsthall. In 2005 she coordinated the Gothenburg International Biennial. At Moderna Museet, Stockholm, she worked on the project The Last Image, 2004. Sinziana Ravini is based in Gothenburg and works as a freelance art critic, curator and polemicist. She is a member of Paletten’s editorial board and has published her writings in Glänta, Ord & Bild, Aorta and Göteborgs-Posten, among others.
In Search of the Lost Self refers back to the Romantic notion of the dissolution and the construction of the self. Remarkably, this notion can be traced in many of the students’ works, and it will be a central theme of the exhibition. The exhibition comprises sculpture, photography, installations and video, as well as unusual techniques and media such as cyanotype printing, Leporello books and contemporary open air painting.
