Lost Counter-Story, Neither Man of Science, Nor Man of Faith, 2008

The works comprise found materials and soil. The sculptures, which are reminiscent of a suite of furniture, play on ‘60s and ‘70s minimalistic sculpture. The artist has a predilection for the superfluous and the rejected, which she painstakingly arranges. The title refers to the television series Lost, which follows the lives of a group of people on a deserted island.

Lost is about the western world’s vulnerability in relation to nature and the hardships that occur when an individual attempts to fit into a given context.” Johanna Gustafsson Fürst

Fucking Space, 2007-2009.

The sculpture is constructed to take possession of the space in which it is exhibited. By displaying a found advertising sign and a messy painting, the artist wants to introduce something low and tatty into an environment that may be perceived as one of art’s hallowed spaces. The sculpture is part of the work Lost Counter-Story.

“Fucking Space is a result of irritation, an act of protest against myself; it is supremely spatial.” Johanna Gustafsson Fürst
