Micol Assaël
Micol Assaël (b. 1979) is based in Rome and Moscow. She has participated in After Nature, New Museum, New York, and In Living Contact, 28th Bienal de São Paulo, and has had solo shows at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, and Secession, Vienna.
Micol Assaël’s work focuses on the forces of nature. In the work Maly Semyachek, the artist has formed copper splint into a little volcano that she has filled with glass balls and illuminated with a sodium lamp. The shape and the title of the work refer to the volcano Maly Semyachek in Russia. The volcano is located in Kamchatka, a UNESCO World Heritage site with over 100 volcanoes.
In her work, Micol Assaël exposes herself and the viewers to the physical powers that ultimately determine our existence – volcanic eruptions, magnetism and coldness. In Untitled (dielectric), she combines electricity and strong wind.
