Jani Ruscica

Jani Ruscica (b. 1978) is based in Helsinki. His recent exhibitions include MOMENTUM 2009 – 5th Nordic Biennial of Contemporary Art, Moss, Norway 2009, as well as screenings at Centre Pompidou, Paris and MOMA, New York.

Jani Ruscica explores the connections between nature and culture. In his work Batbox/Beatbox he brings together horseshoe bats and beatboxers from the streets of New York. Here he examines different forms of human and animal communication, based on the body’s ability to generate sounds.

The kaleidoscopic landscape on Jani Ruscica’s wallpaper 64°N, -6°E is composed of nature photographs that the artist has taken in the Faroe Islands. The subject matter, which may be viewed in detail as well as holistically, could theoretically grow indefinitely.
