Charles Avery

Charles Avery (b. 1973) is a Scottish born artist based in London. Since 2004, he has been working on a project entitled The Islanders, which has been exhibited at the 2007 Venice Biennale, the 2007 Lyon Biennial, the 2009 Tate Triennial, and at Parasol Unit, London, 2008.

Since 2004 Charles Avery has been working on a project entitled The Islanders. Using sculpture, drawings and texts he has created an imaginary world, a remote island somewhere. Like the explorers of the past he describes plants and nature, creatures and culture in this place. Avery places strange animals and hunters in the mythical landscape, which also includes pubs and market places. In addition, he draws up maps of this world, which could be viewed as a warped reflection of our own.

The following works are shown in the exhibition:
Untitled (One-armed Snake), 2009
