Kristina Matousch was born in 1974, studied at the Royal University College of Fine Arts (KKH) in Stockholm, and lives and works in Malmö. She has participated in exhibitions at Elastic Gallery, Natalia Goldin Gallery and Kalmar Konstmuseum, and has made public decorations for Hyllie Station in Malmö and Stortorget Square in Gävle.
“…liking an artist and then meeting her can be similar to liking goose liver and then meeting the goose, as they say, but that does not apply to Matousch. Meeting her, whether it be in the street or at a performance, really does lead somewhere, despite the fact that you actually become even more uncertain and confused! But your appetite increases, and you say thank you and bow, and welcome the growing hunger with curiosity and good humour! And besides, her gadgets occasionally specifically revolve around the mystery and functions of eating, don’t they? Empty and full, plug and hole, loaded and disarmed. It is she herself and her artistic work as a vehicle for communication… with her idiosyncratic humour acting as a valve between them…”
Dan Wolgers, Artist
In the exhibition, Kristina Matousch is participating with the works Mass and Volume as well as the performance Subject in Object, which will be performed at the inauguration on 22 November. Questions about the human desire for objects and about art as a product run like a red connecting thread through Kristina Matousch’s artistic work. In techniques including painting, sculpture, installation and performance, she investigates everyday objects that surround us – cardboard boxes, credit cards and the hanging display systems used in shops. A recurrent feature of Kristina Matousch’s works are holes and perforations that are more tangible than the material that surrounds them. The empty space makes visible the fact that things actually consist of holes. Holes that create patterns, re-model and give new meaning to surfaces and objects that have been removed.
