A wide-ranging program of readings, performances, discussions and lectures will be given during the course of the exhibition Against Time.
Wed 21/11 The Invisible - Ulla von Brandenburg , Ján Mančuška and Melvin Moti.
A night of performances featuring three internationally renowned artists. Ján Mančuška shows his performance work The Invisible involving eight actors. Ulla von Brandenburg and Julia Horstmann perform a shadow play based on a literary text. Melvin Moti is presented in an artist talk and screens his film No Show. Ján Mančuška sets out from private memories in his work and has exhibited at, among others, the 2006 Berlin Biennial. Ulla von Brandenburg’s art is rich in references, particularly in relation to the theatre. This autumn, she will participate in a group exhibition at Tate Modern, London. Melvin Moti works with film based on historical events. He lives and works in Rotterdam. All works and talks are in English.

The Confiscation of Memory
In contemporary Europe we see evidence of how historical writing and language are used as political tools. The writer Dubravka Ugresic left Croatia for political reasons in 1993. She now lives in Amsterdam. Her writing is a resistance against oblivion, as well as a critique of how the construction of a common past can be used for nationalist purposes. Dubravka Ugresic talks about her writing. Introduced and concluded by assistant curator Caroline Elgh.

Copying Correctly
There is an ongoing discussion on authenticity and plagiarism. The writer Fabian Kastner has published the novel Oneirine which contains quotations without references. The artist Martin Karlsson draws our attention to anachronistic details in a series of photographs with motifs from the open-air museum Skansen. We will discuss recycling and copyright in art and literature.

Matter Out of Time
Something is happening with literature. No longer contained by the covers of a book, it takes its place in space and becomes a part of visual art. Some of the writers and artists from the exhibition will read and perform. An expanded literature makes its voice heard.
